Reading Diary Extra WK 6 - Tibetan Folktales

Donkey and Rock, Mildred Bryant.

Tibetan Folktales, section A.

+ The Story of the Donkey and the Rock
This story was interesting for the twist at the end. You would expect something akin to that story of King Solomon and the splitting the baby in half scheme, but instead, the king actually raises the money for the man who lost his stock. What a nice surprise!

+ How the Fox Fell Victim to His Own Deceit
I think the best part of this story is how the two friends managed to talk it out before it came to blows. If it was a modern retelling on TV or a movie, you know it'd be way more dramatic and gritty. Pretty gnarly how the Tiger killed the Fox, though, since he had also grown up with them.

+ The Ingratitude of Man
This story fits with the theme of not judging a book by it's cover. The rescuer didn't think much of the three animals he rescued and only thought the other man would be useful, but it was that man who betrayed him. Assume nothing!
