Famous Last Words WK 14

Baba Yaga by Nik-Ants

This past week's reading was probably my favourite of everything I've read this semester. Russian Folktales are just so kooky. There are some morals to be gained, but mostly I feel they are just stories that have been told to keep each other amused. What kind of moral could 'The Two Friends' give besides don't drink with dead people? Or 'The Bad Wife'? If your wife is a lazy nag, make sure she falls in a hole, but don't forget to outsmart the imp that begs to escape her? These are definitely stories that people who were drinking and possibly snowed in probably made up. That doesn't mean they aren't awesome. They are, perhaps, more awesome because of it. These crazy stories endured!

Most of my writing this past week has been dedicated to my final paper in Anthropology. Pretending to excavate the house I am residing in is a mind stretcher. You have to look at what objects could possibly be left after 10 thousand years, and then guess what they may have been used for. It's a really creative assignment and I adore it! The second part of the assignment is to point out how future!you assumed wrong based on the artifacts left and why. So not only do you have to be creative AND wrong, then you have to tell yourself how silly you were about it.

Outside of class, I don't really have very much going on. More doctor appointments, a bout of the flu and a cat who needs constant cuddles take up most of my time. I'm relieved the semester is almost over, but I will be sad for this class to end. I really enjoyed the readings, the storybook assignment, reading everyone else's writings and giving and receiving wonderful feedback! I think it was the feedback that really helped me push through the blocks with my storybook, knowing there were people who were interested in what happens next. Made me want to work on it all the time!
